The Zink the Zebra Patch Program for Girl Scouts

"We are honored to help spread the Zink the Zebra message of understanding, respect, compassion, and acceptance.  The Zink the Zebra program reflects the core of what our company believes in, namely, respect, open communication, and diversity."

-Ted English, President and CEO-

of the TJX Companies, Inc., the parent company of T.J. Maxx

For Girl Scout troop leaders, this is a program that has it all! Girl Scout leader's purchase a package containing either a book, animated video of the book or a video of the Zink: the Myth, the Legend, the Zebra play. Materials received are dependent upon age level of the girls. Also included in the package are activities and even snack ideas. The Girl Scout package includes a spotted zebra learning tool and a patch.

Beyond its appeal as an activity, the Zink program:

  • Provides Girl Scouts with activities that demonstrate the importance of understanding, respect, compassion, and acceptance of themselves and others.
  • Acts as a vehicle to open discussion about cancer and other actual or perceived differences that touch the lives of virtually every girl and family.

Zink the Zebra Program for Girl Scouts

Girl Scout councils and USA Girl Scouts Overseas locations are using Zink the Zebra as a tool to educate girls (ages 5-17) and adult members on the importance of understanding, respect, compassion, and acceptance of themselves and others.  Activities are also available for use in Girl Scout day, resident and weekend camp settings.  Girl Scouts of Milwaukee Area, Inc. (Milwaukee, Wisconsin) received one of the Girl Scouts of the USA's 1999 Quality Recognition Awards for this unique program initiative developed in collaboration with Zink the Zebra Foundation.

Each girl will receive a spotted beanbag zebra at the beginning of the program and an atttractive patch at the conclusion. The color depends on the age level: blue for Daisy Girl Scouts, green for Brownie Girl Scouts, yellow for Junior Girls Scouts and red for Cadette and Senior Girl Scouts. The activities also link directly to other requirements to achieve a variety of GSUSA recognitions.
