The Zink Song

(To the tune of "Allouette")

  • Zink the Zebra is a little different. Zink the Zebra is a lot alike.

She has little spots. Fink has little stripes.

She has spots; he has stripes - still the same family.

  • Zink the Zebra is a little different. Zink the Zebra is a lot alike.

She like to run and play, Just the same as all the rest,

Run and play, spots or stripes - all like to have fun.

  • Zink the Zebra is a little different. Zink the Zebra is a lot alike.

Don't be mean and separate, Words can hurt as much as hands,

  • Words can hurt, don't be mean - love everybody.

  • Zink the Zebra is a little different. Zink the Zebra is a lot alike.

Created by Second Grade Brownie Girl Scout Troop #136, Diane Stoddard, Girl Scout Leader, Grand Marais, MN, Girl Scouts of the Northern Pine Council.

Cadette Girl Scout Troop #230 of Girl Scouts Heart of Florida Council submitted the following winning stories:

Once upon a time, there was a zebra called Zink. She had black plaids on her skin like a Scottish shirt. One day when she left her mom to play with the other zebras, she noticed that every time she moved closer to the group, the group would move far away from her. Then they would turn around to stare at her, laugh and point. So one day, she asked the heard of the group, Zaphillia, “Why is it whenever I come around, your group leaves me? That makes me feel sad.” Zaphillia said, “You’re different.” So they walked over to the head parents and asked them, “Are we different?”The parents responded, “No!”Then they gave Zink and Zaphillia a lecture. When they were through Zaphillia told Zink that she was so sorry. To make up for it, she introduced Zink to the rest of the crew. They grew to love her as though she was a part of them. They lived happily together, never spreading apart.

Once upon a time there was a zebra who didn’t have stripes. She had hearts on her. They were pink and she was black with pink stripes on her body. She was so different that she was lonely; the other zebras didn’t even look her way.It made her feel like she wasn’t born.

    Amanne S.

Once upon a time there was a zebra called Zink.He was always alone and he always felt left out of the other zebras. He felt bad because he thought he was different cause he had spots, but he really didn’t care because he was happy who he was. The End.

One day I was in the jungle and saw a zebra that was yellow with green squares and circles.I thought that she looked so weird. She asked me why did I look so weird and told me I wouldn’t fit in because I had pink hearts with blue stars.I told her that it didn’t matter what was on the outside because it all comes from the inside.I think that your yellow body with green squared and circles are pretty.I would like to be your friend because I think we have a lot in common.

    Brittany B.

Once there was a zebra named Zink.He was different; he had red spots with blue stars on him.His mom and dad had black and white stripes like the other zebras. When Zink always passed a zebra with black and white stripes, the zebra would always back away from him and talk about him to the zebras. Zink had no friends. He was lonely and needed someone to play with. But one day another zebra with stripes came up to Zink and told him, “ I know how you feel, but I would like to be your friend.” Zink was so happy they went along playing together in the woods. The zebra with the stripes didn’t even mention Zink’s spots. The End.

    Decara J.

Once upon a time in Africa, there was a zebra named Zink.He was very different from every other zebra. He was light blue with pink dots.He also was a zebra with a bad attitude. He was so self conceited that he thought he was all that.He walked around the jungle bragging about how beautiful he was.He just didn’t know that someone was bigger and badder than him.So he comes along and meets another zebra with a crowd around him. He tries to fit in but it just doesn’t work. The next day rolls along and he sees the zebra from yesterday, so he acts as if he doesn’t see him.Zink turns back around and said, “Why can’t you speak?”  He said I thought you would try to holler and fight me.Zink said that even though I am self-conceited on the outside I am not on the inside. Then the zebra said well then you don’t need to let the outside control the inside. So, they became friends. As Zink and Lowes grew to become best of friends everyone found out that deep inside Zink is actually the best zebra and that it doesn’t take being self-conceited for that to be seen.

    Eva S.

One day a zebra was born. They named him Zink.He was very different. He had polka dots! His brother said, “Why do you have spots? Why don’t you have stripes like the rest of us?”Zink replied, “I don’t know!”He brother said, “You’re weird!” Zink said, “No, you’re weird!”Zink and his brother went to their parents, “Dad, Mom, which one of us is weird? They replied, “No one is weird we are all different.”

    Jasmine L.

One day I was walking down the street with my friend Brittany, talking about the usual, when I saw a horse.I went over there introduced myself and we became friends.About three months later she went to get checked and she found out that she had cancer and she told me about the problem.I accepted it and we stayed friends forever.

    Leslie H.

Zink the Zebra was very different zebra because he was plaid. His mom, dad, sisters and brothers all had stripes. His friends would not play with him.He finally found out that everyone was different!!!

    Paige C.

One day while Zink was playing with his friends in the water, a zebra came up to him and asked, “Why do you have spots?”Zink didn’t quite understand, “Look at you!” Zink looked at his reflection in the water, his friends started to go along with the zebra. They started to make fun of him. Zink started to cry.“Run home, you little baby!” His friends betrayed him, so he ran home and asked his parents if he was different.“Yes you are”, his mother said, “but that is what makes you special!”So every time the mean zebras called him names Zink replied, I know I’m different, but that’s what makes me special. And as the days went on he became happier everyday.
